A ten-race Galway card features a couple of sweepstake finals tonight as the unraced sprint decider concludes, alongside the final of the Avenue Queen A3 525.
The first of the stake finals to get underway is the €1,000-to-the-winner Galway Unraced ON2/ON3 350 and Crafty Moirai is the likely favourite for Peter Divilly. He is three from three in this event and the son of Ballymac Cashout hopes to make it the perfect four from a perfect draw in trap one. His 19.29 clock is superior to his rivals and will hope to gain a clear passage on the rails before delivering another strong finish. His chief rival looks to be Jack and John Browne’s Cascade Thor. The September son of Dromana Bucko has shown fine early pace in each of his starts and is two from three in the stake up to this point. He will don the orange jacket in this contest and should the heavyweight trap on terms, he can ask plenty of questions of the favourite. Omey Fog is another who will carry hopes for Kevin Marmion and the Don’t-Be-Late-Syndicate. Draw in two, the pacey black has been well-supported in each of her starts, however, has come up short thus far. That said, the daughter of Grangeview Ten has a tidy draw in trap two. Of the other Up The Jimmys is the youngster of the line-up and will only improve with experience. Sean Keleghan’s runner is a mere fifteen months and clearly has ability. Meanwhile, Caislean Mia and Lissatouk Robbie cannot be discounted, with both performing with merit in the earlier rounds of the stake.
RHINO HOPING TO CHARGE
Kindly sponsored by Brian Robinson, the final of the Avenue Queen A3 525 follows in race eight and Hollywell Rhino will likely take a bit of stopping.
Owned and trained by Alison Coxon, Hollywell Rhino posted a rapid 28.87 last weekend and anything close to that will surely suffice in the decider. He again dons the black jacket in the final and if he can match his 3.30 sectional from the semis, he will have one paw on the prize. That said, the son of Kinloch Brae can be inconsistent at traps, so this is far from a foregone conclusion. On the outside, Jasmine Coco is a big threat. The daughter of Ballyhimikin Jet, trained by Colm Fitzgerald, posted a fast 28.91 last weekend and she is representing a kennel in form after the victory of Flyers Penney in the Paul McKenna Memorial last Saturday night. Laois Lightning, Drombeg King, Glamorous Rocket and Breaghmore Tilly all have a bit to find if they are to cause an upset, however, this is a fascinating contest where any slip-ups will be capitalised upon.
