Sponsors Star Sports reported laying a hefty bet on Ireland to win the Star Sports & Orchestrate English Derby on Tuesday evening at their preview evening.
When you look through their ante-post betting market it is easy to see why punters were attracted to the 4-6 on offer about the winner coming from this side of the Irish Sea.
The outright market is dominated by Irish raiders with fourteen of the top twenty in the betting representing these shores. Ballymac Setanta and Hackney Corner are co favourites alongside the UK’s best Proper Heiress at 16-1, while Bockos Diamond and Glengar Silent complete the top five in the market at 18-1, meaning four of the top five in the betting are Irish trained.
Irish Derby champion Cheap Sandwiches comes next at 20-1, joined by two UK fancies, Romeo Tomcat and Underground Gold. A whole host of Irish runners come next with Ballymac Deniro, Glengar Kane, Low Profile and Swords Style at 25-1 and Lennies Eddie at 28-1.
Ballinabola Joe, Ballymac Duffle, Ballymac Stud and Epic Ace are all on the 33-1 mark, while the only other members of the home team to make it into the top twenty are Droopys Graph, Rebel Alaska and Strike It Skye – all of which are available at 33-1.
