TREATY SIGNS OFF IN STYLE AT LIMERICK

Peter Farrell

A ten-race card featured at Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night and the pick of the performances came in the finale as Mongys Treaty produced a dominant display to land the A1 575.

Owned by Kieran Murphy, Mongys Treaty (3/1) had just two starts under his belt prior to lining out, however, he had some tasty qualifying efforts in the book which outlined his obvious ability to compete at this level. Mystical Poppy was the even-money favourite, but in truth the contest was over early as the September ’24 whelp broke well from four before showcasing a lovely turn of early speed to lead. In doing so, the son of Glengar Bale - Banter Breeze powered into a six-length advantage down the back, leaving his rivals trailing in behind. With the long run home now in his sights, the pacey pup showed no signs of relenting as he stayed on strongly to see off Mystical Poppy by six and a half lengths in a rapid 31.20. On the evidence of that performance, this tracker looks to have a bright future for the Murphy connections.

SNUGGIE DOUBLE

Elsewhere on the card, there was a double for the Myles Cummins kennel as both Snuggie Rhino and Snuggie Carson landed their respective contests.

The first to strike was Snuggie Rhino in an A3 525. Donning the striped jacket, the son of Orchestrate - Pearl Express was only moderately into stride from his wide berth and suffered first-bend traffic to sit some six lengths off the pace entering the back straight. However, trouble at the head of proceedings at the third bend aided his recovery and he powered to the front off the final turn before staying on well to win by two and a half lengths from Da Roundie Man. The time was 29.40.

The double was completed in race six, an A2 525, as Snuggie Carson (Grangeview Ten - Crottys Act) took his career tally into double figures. Drawn in two, ‘Carson’ was headed early by Boozed Mag in five, however, he held his inside line well to narrowly lead at halfway. It remained nip and tuck between the pair thereafter, but Snuggie Carson (5/2) found more on the Limerick hill to emerge a one-and-a-half-length winner over ‘Mags’. The time was 28.86.

NOTABLE WINNERS

On the remainder of the card, Vigorous Polly made a winning debut for Ronny Wuyts, clocking a smart 29.01, while React Jess landed race two in excellent fashion, coming from off the pace to win by six lengths in 28.81 for Evan McAuliffe. The Kathy Scanlon-owned Ballyelan Brandy returned to winning ways when taking charge late in 28.93, while Private Lola just held off the advances of Tyrap Malachi in a brisk 28.78, the fastest time over the standard trip on the night, for John Ryan and John Byrne. One performance that would be remiss not to mention came from Avon Blaze in race eight. Set to turn five in just a matter of weeks, the veteran showed he retains plenty of ability as he led from trap to line for Michael Leahy, stopping the clock in a fast 28.86.
