Dan Brassil confirmed on Saturday night at Limerick that his Irish Derby champion Cheap Sandwiches was over a little setback that held up his preparations for another crack at the English Derby.
Less than twenty-four hours later, the brilliant son of Burgess Bucks reappeared at Towcester, having his first public outing since the Winter Racing Festival. Moving fluently, Cheap Sandwiches posted 15.95 as he brushed away some of the cobwebs.
It is great to see the superstar back in action and he is now set to join a big team from the Riverside Kennels of Graham Holland at Towcester. Of course, he will be joined by his old foe and kennel companion Bockos Diamond.
KANE FASTEST OVER THE TWO BEND TRIP
Fastest of the Irish to trial over the 270m trip was the Pat Buckley trained Glengar Kane.
The Enniscorthy 525yd record holder flew around in 15.62, again highlighting his obvious ability. Yorkie Ollie, a kennel companion to Cheap Sandwiches posted 16.02.
SILENT ROARS AROUND
2025 Irish Derby finalist Glengar Silent again flew in a trial, posting a fastest of the session 28.63 for the 500m trip.
The Pat Buckley trained powerhouse seems to be better than ever after a winter rest and many will feel he is capable of going deep in the English Derby.
Another with classic form to trial over the 500m trip was Juvenile Derby champion Getup The Boy. The Mark Robinson trained powerhouse posted 29.10.
Paul Hennessy’s recent Easter Cup runner-up Lennies Tank also had a 500m spin, steering a wide path on his way to posting 29.36. He should come on considerably for the experience but it is worth noting he clocked a rapid 3.86 to the turn. Graham Holland’s Riverside Scotch posted 29.85.
