Following a meeting earlier today and a review of weather forecasts issued by Met Eireann (along with the expansion of the Status Yellow Warning Areas), Rásaíocht Con Éireann (RCÉ) has issued an update regarding racing and trial arrangements as warm weather conditions continue. All decisions are taken with the welfare and care of racing greyhounds into consideration.
RCÉ has confirmed the following additional amendments to weekend racing schedules:
Saturday 11th July
- Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium (Cork): Racing is now cancelled
- Youghal Greyhound Stadium: Racing is now cancelled
- Kingdom Greyhound Stadium, Tralee: Racing will start at the later time of 9pm.
All other venues not currently under Status Yellow Warning have been passed for racing at this time.
Owners and trainers are also advised to contact their racing office regarding local arrangements for unofficial (private) trials. All track related activity at tracks affected by Status Yellow Weather Warning issued by Met Eireann continues to remain suspend, for the duration of that warning.
Given the regional variation in temperatures and weather conditions across the country, some individual tracks unaffected tracks by the Status Yellow Weather Warning may implement amendments to existing schedules in line with local forecasted conditions subject to working within the overall guidance, direction and approval by the Director of Regulation. Any regional variation locally would continue to require such approval.
In line with RCÉ warm weather protocols, water baths will be available at all locations, and greyhound owners and trainers are asked to refer to the guidance document “Caring for Greyhounds in Warm Weather” to ensure the continued welfare of their animals, a copy of which can be found here.
RCÉ will continue to monitor conditions and provide further updates as appropriate throughout the week.
