Pomba Angie has really shone through the Bosco Gleeson Memorial A2 at Newbridge and tonight she can again light up the Kildare venue with a fourth straight success in the €2,500 decider.
After winning in 28.60 and 28.80 in the early rounds, she went even faster for David Flanagan and owner Matthew Derrick last week, posting a rapid 28.54.
Her reward for that run is an ideal draw on the fence this evening. She has only twice run from the inside box in her career and suffered defeat on both occasions but she comes into tonight’s contest a different bitch.
Blessed with superb pace from start to finish, she can hold her pitch into the bend before making her all-round pace and strength count.
Of her rivals, her near neighbour in two, Jaytee Dallas, is perhaps the greatest threat. She too comes into tonight’s contest in fine form but may need to lead Pomba Angie early to lower her colours. That is no easy task.
Of the remainder, Priceless On Ice and Clashroe Ted will finish fast and look to make the frame late, while Meleys and Changed Times have all-round pace but have a bit to find on the clock.
Stick with Pomba Angie. She is likely to start a warm favourite and can justify her backer’s support by emerging a good winner. All evidence would suggest it will be her last start in graded company for some time with the daughter of Ballymac Cooper likely to go on to bigger and better things.
ELSEWHERE ON THE CARD
Elsewhere on the Newbridge card there are three opening round heats of the October Unraced ON2 525 featuring a number of well-bred types.
There is also the final of the Book Your Christmas Party Night A6/A7 525 and Cross Bono can emerge on top if reproducing his impressive semi-final display. The other semi-final winner Sunfire Sadie is the clear danger.
