JACK LEADS HOME A BUCKLEY ONE-TWO IN ENNISCORTHY

There was quite a shock in the final of the Kiltrea Kennels Open Unraced at Enniscorthy on Monday night with Pat Buckley’s 2-5 favourite Singalong Magic fluffing her lines before finishing second.

Luckily for Buckley, it was her kennelmate and second favourite Barnfield Jack that seized his opportunity to land the €2,000 prize.

The son of Ballinabola Ed and View Doolin broke smartly and soon showed in front of Fercullen Cathy into the turn. Despite moving off the bend, he slipped around in front before going on to stop the lock in 28.96. It was a display full of promise from Thomas Leahy’s charge and it seems safe to assume there is far better to come.

Behind the eventual winner, Singalong Magic missed the start from the inside box but found room to race around the corner. Moving second between the opening two corners, she rode a bump to take up the pursuit of Barnfield Jack.  

Running Saint displayed fine back straight pace to challenge Singalong Magic in second to the third turn but the latter stayed on very well from this point. Barnfield Jack was gone, however, and he duly crossed the line a length and a half to the good over Singalong Magic with Running Saint finishing another five lengths adrift in third.
