EXCITING TIMES WITH NEW STAND AT KILKENNY TAKING SHAPE

2025 is set to be a most significant year for the greyhound racing community in Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois and, indeed, the Greyhound industry as a whole.

In the past, numerous attempts have been to redevelop the greyhound stadium at Kilkenny but for many reasons, despite valiant effort, these plans never came to fruition.

Finally, a in late 2024, things starting to happen. When the old stand was demolished, greyhound enthusiasts in the Kilkenny region began dreaming of what their new surroundings would look like. Fast forward a few months and the new build is really beginning to take shape.

Thankfully, everything has gone to plan to this point and it is hoped that the majority of the works will be completed by October.

The plans for the redeveloped stadium have been supported and approved by Greyhound Racing Ireland and The Department of Agriculture Food & Marine. This truly reflects the support and confidence shown in the Greyhound Industry and will no doubt give a boost to greyhound racing in Kilkenny and the surrounding areas.

Over the past months, due to the ongoing construction, facilities are been limited and pretty basic. Those involved in Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium appreciate the patience and support shown by every one of their patrons during this time. There seems no doubt it will be worth it when the stadium opens in the very near future.

Below is a picture of the progress thus far. I think you will agree that it is going to make a huge difference at a track that consistently attracts big local crowds, provides some wonderful racing and has a thriving betting ring. Things certainly do seem very positive at Kilkenny and I’m sure most involved in our sport will make it a top priority to visit the ‘new’ Kilkenny when it does open.
