DASEY TAKES DUNDALK FEATURE

There were some fine displaysat Dundalk on Saturday night.

The feature was the final of the Track Supporters Club A4 525 and Denis McArdle’s Grove Dasey followed up her impressive semi-final display to win the final.

Prominent into the bend, she was headed into the back straight by Dutch Caboom, who proceeded to set a strong gallop to the third turn. The wheels would come off for Dutch Caboom, however. As his stride began to shorten, Grove Dasey closed fast and struck the front on the run in to emerge a two and a quarter length scorer in 28.95.

Klassy Katie came through for second with Dutch Caboom eventually finishing another length and a quarter back in third.

MO THE HIGHLIGHT OF A MATTHEWS DOUBLE

Brendan Matthews had a good double on the supporting card with Green Me Granny and particularly Salacres Mo both winning over 400yds in the manner of greyhounds with a bright future.

Salacres Mo was only fifth into the home straight after a slow start and signs of inexperience but he absolutely flew up the straight to come from what seemed an impossible position to lead on the line. The son of Pestana and Thisonesforyougot up to beat Buddy Bruno by a neck in 21.33. Having qualified to race in 28.20 around Shelbourne Park, it is perhaps no stretch to suggest this fellow could develop into a serious tracker but it really is worth looking back at this run.

GRANNY GREEN BUT PROMISING

Green Me Granny was also impressive, albeit he was never far off the pace.

He edged inwards from five into the bend to challenge before drifting off the second turn to allow Shelone Verde to up his inside. Green Me Granny finished with purpose, however, to eventually emerge a length and a half scorer in 21.39. It was the sort of display that suggested it is over four bends where he will excel. 

DROGON FASTEST OVER 525YDS

Emma Hall’s Drogon was a good winner of the Track Supporters Club Open 525.

In front from the early yards, the son of Burgess Bucks and Be The Best made all to see off Clona Comet by three and a half lengths in 28.42. 

ROCK LEAVES RIVALS CHASING SHADOWS

Shadow Oftherock returned to four bends to win the seventh race on the card for James Cushnahan and John Eastwood.

A talented sprinter, it was perhaps no surprise to see him dictate from the early yards. The son of Mcinerney and Scroggy Della eased on to put daylight between himself and his rivals and eventually struck the line six and a quarter lengths clear of Blue Rinse in 28.49.
