By now most will be aware of the sad and sudden passing of Ann Lenehan in recent days.
Ann was, of course, a cherished member of staff at Shelbourne Park for many years, eventually retiring as Tote Manager in 2017 but she was so much more to those that worked alongside her, knew her, and loved her.
It is often said that the Tote is the heartbeat of the tracks, with the atmosphere created by those on the front line providing the personal touch that makes a venue special. That was certainly true at Shelbourne Park, and much of that warmth and spirit came from Ann. Whether on the floor or behind the scenes, there was always a wonderful sense of camaraderie and kindness around the Tote under her watch.
Ann truly was the heart of Shelbourne Park. Warm, generous, and gracious, she possessed an almost motherly presence that made everyone feel welcome and valued. Those who worked with her adored her. It was impossible not to. She was calm under pressure, a pleasure to work alongside, and the very definition of professionalism.
These same qualities were passed on to her children and grandchildren, many of whom have done their time in Shelbourne Park, including her daughter Linda, who succeeded her as Shelbourne Tote Manager following Ann’s retirement.
The warmth and spirit that defined Ann’s time at Shelbourne Park remain to this day. She set the tone and left behind a lasting legacy that continues in the people and atmosphere she helped shape.A true lady in every sense of the word, her passing came as a great shock. She may never have fully realised just how much she meant to the countless people whose lives she touched over the years and will be deeply missed by so many.
On behalf of everyone that had the privilege of working alongside Ann, dealing with her professionally, or most especially, calling her a friend, we extend our sincerest condolences to her family, her husband Frank, her daughters Linda and Anita, her beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers Jim and Tom, sister Mary, extended family and countless friends.
May She Rest In Peace.
